Cardano network recovers quickly after node outage event

The short-term outage affecting more than 50% of networks was automatically fixed within minutes on Sunday.

The developers wrote in a GitHub post that the Cardano network experienced a node outage on Sunday that was automatically fixed within minutes with no root cause identified at the time of writing.

Some developers reported bugs on GitHub but said all nodes had automatically restarted.

Block generation nodes are temporarily affected, a Telegram broadcast announcement showed. The nodes of the stakeholders in the network system maintain and process transactions on the blockchain and it is essential for any maintenance activities of the network.

“There has been a short period of degradation,” tweeted Rick McCracken, the developer who built the staking tools for Cardano. “Most of the affected nodes recovered dynamically without restarting the network.”

Blockchain nodes have previously gone offline on networks like Solana, with one such incident causing the entire Solana network to shut down for more than seven hours last May, as CoinDesk reported. In a separate case in 2021, Solana validators had to restart the network to fix the network outage.

Reasons for node failures can range from overloading transaction operations to faulty code. However, a quick fix may indicate strong underlying factors for the affected network. The Cardano community is cheering a rapid revival, calling it proof that Cardano is a better blockchain than Solana, which took several hours to restore the network when it encountered multiple outages in 2022.

“What really took away for me was how impressively resilient the cardano network is . Something knocked down ~60% of nodes and the network recovered after a few minutes and continued to generate transparent blocks,” Pi Lanningham, chief technology officer of Cardano-based decentralized exchange SundaeSwap, tweeted .
